Robert Sutherland

Robert Sutherland was born to Alexander and Elizabeth Sutherland, likely in August, 1850, in Nova Scotia (location unknown). He married Jane Sutherland on Feb. 24, 1876 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  They had 2 sons, both born in Winnipeg: Alexander John, born Nov. 29, 1876 and Wilfred Ernest, born Apr., 1879.  Jane died Apr. 6, 1888 in Winnipeg.  He then married Clara Belle Bartlett Lee, a widow, on Jan. 22, 1891 in Winnipeg.  They had a daughter, Millicent, born Nov. 9, 1891 in Winnipeg.

Around 1898, Robert and some of the family moved to Whiting, Indiana and by 1908 were living in Richmond, Contra Costa County, California. They were still living there in 1916 or 1917 and then they disappear.  They didn't die in Richmond.

Robert's professions included: steam engineer, machinist, pipefitter and shopman.  In Indiana and California, it seems that he was employed by Standard Oil.
