Who Are You?
Where Do You Come From?
Would You Like To Find Out?
We cordially invite you to consider becoming a member of the AGS and the fastest growing hobby, passion, obsession in the world today. Tracing your roots is an exciting and truly rewarding pursuit. You are the culmination of all of those who went before you. Almost everything about you: your looks, your susceptibility or immunity to many physical or medical conditions, much of your demeanour and the way that you accomplish activities are thanks to your genetic inheritance.
Researching your family history is more than just names and dates; it is the effort to understand how our ancestors lived and loved and died. Just how hard was life in the 1800s? Would we, with our concept of lifestyle, have been able to survive and thrive in their circumstances? Perhaps you have an ancestor who was famous, connected to royalty, politically active or a horse thief. Until we take the time to seek we can never know. I'm sure that, like most of us, you have "Family Stories" that may have been passed down through several generations. Are they true? We don't know until we start digging.
The Abbotsford Genealogical Society has an abundance of research resources which we are continually expanding. Our greatest resource is our membership. Many members have been chasing their families for many years and we have members with exceptional knowledge in virtually every geographical area and resource depository. We have a series of training sessions that teach our new members everything from basic computer use to search techniques on the Internet and specific lessons about computer database programs to store and organize your research. Each new member receives a package of material to help them get started on their research.
You are welcome to attend one of our
monthly meetings as a guest. Come and meet the great group of
people and catch the "genealogy bug" View, print and fill out
membership application and bring it with you to the next
meeting or contact us by mail.
Welcome to the AGS!
